Thanks for the good advice Jonas.:)
The intense heat is one of two issues I have with incandescent blacklights; the other is that they put off a pitiful amount of UV light! Put in an incandescent one and, yeah, that plastic ring might start oozing if you don't remove it. My advice: put a compact fluorescent blacklight bulb in it. Hardware stores (big ones) stock 'em. The CFL ones just pump out the UV. I love hidden sources for blacklights, and I think you should totally do that. Those also work well in track lighting. Stick a decal on it with a CFL one in there and you'll have no trouble.
Do you think this base would overheat if I put a black light bulb in it? It's metal and the plastic ring at the top is removable. I may just do that and set it under a black light poster if it will project the light enough to get full effect. Also would like to put a Pink Floyd decal on it but again... would the heat just melt it off?? hmmmm
Yeah, just 'cuz it wasn't made for a lamp doesn't mean you can't make it into a lamp, though if I were doing it, I'd find a way to put a lot more weight in the bottom.
Why does that not surprise me Dr Dr? Maybe if I try real hard I can make it on the Google list too. :)
lol I used these for the globes for 2 of my custom lamps.
ahh thanks Jonas! Thought about using it for a glass head or absolute vodka bottle.
Floor lamp. Put it behind a potted plant for some nice patterns on the wall and ceiling. Put it behind a sofa and wash the wall with indirect light.
