I was just about to list this one for sale, but it's too beautiful and I think I want to keep it. :) Esp since I topped it off with distilled (thanks Shawn!) and it's flowing excellently! It's a gorgeous lamp...

Yes, these screw-on caps are plastic. The 90s' models had plastic caps that just sat on top and the bottles were capped with a bottlecap.
Oh gosh, are they plastic? Yep, I'd probably crack it. Wonder if one of those thin rubber jar openers would work?
That's if you're trying to get a bottlecap off, not this kind. These are screw-on caps.
I read on here to take a small screwdriver and gently pry it off all around without bending the cap. Wouldn't a small screwdriver do what you just said not to do? As in slipping said screwdriver blade under the cap? I see where a hose clamp should work to put it back on. I would just worry about getting it off.
Yes, the caps can be insanely hard to get off. This one wasn't bad. Learn from my mistakes - don't slip anything under the cap in an attempt to loosen it up - you'll just end up cracking it!
I'll remember that trick if I ever run onto one that is a bit low on water. Like I could even get the cap off.....LOL
Seriously, I had just written up the thread here to list it for sale and then started looking at all the pictures again and couldn't pull the trigger! However, I am very excited that distilled water was safe to add and topped it off nicely. It's a near-perfect lamp now!
Agreed, much too beautiful to sell, Erin!! All it needs is little Nigel posing on top. :-)
