Really unhappy with the state of this globe. Shame on Mathmos for allowing this to go on for over a year now.

yes, my experience with recent formula is that the window in which it will run acceptably is quite small. Tried to make new masterfkuid with glycol and with glycerin and it flows pretty much like shit...every once in a while a blob rises, stays in top, falls down again. nothing like the multiple spheres rising, separating while sinking etc...might be my lack of experience but I tried several times and a few years back I made fuid without any problems whatsoever and even was able to adjust the flow to my liking.
They usually make formula changes because of new regulations that put limits on ingredients of their existing formulas. They could however make lamps that flow better with the current regulations in place. I know this because I've done it. I don't know why they didn't keep trying until they had better flow especially considering their current formula has so many issues.
There are many signs which are not noticable at first glance or as a first time lava lamp customer but they all point in the opposite direction of high quality made in uk and towards "some times acceptable quality if not directly compared to earlyer issues of the same product partially handmade using a new formula that sticks, doenst flow as good as before but it's cheap as hell".
I hope they change things back again but I doubt it...Maybe they even think the same way but are forces to cut every corner to stay profitable and alive...not even unlikely
You're telling me. I've spent over £1000 this year on Mathmos products and I'm at a 50% defect rate. There is no way they don't know this is a problem. I quit collecting for many years and came back with the means to buy Mathmos lamps with the thought that I can finally afford to collect them. Now I have every color combo they offer and every base I want and I am left with mixed feelings. I can buy a $30 Lava Lite lamp that is clear and doesn't have any sticking problems that looks just as nice. The only thing Mathmos has over Lava Lite at this point is their bases are nicer, but even then they have had so many flops lately. People get dented and scratched bases and Mathmos is reluctant to make it right. Such a disappointment. I just want them to do better. I'd love to keep buying from them, but at this point I hardly ever feel like it's worth their premium price.
Wow I have to say that this "warranty void because imported" claim is such a big pile of sh... that I can't find any words for all the different negative feelings this is causing in me...mostly frustration, anger, sadness and some sort of "i think I wont give them my money anymore and only buy used bottles and lamps from now on" feeling. As if the location of their faulty product makes any difference whatsoever. It really is a shame that their customer service which is awesome in europe is completely useless and unreasonable from supposedly anhwhere else. I also had a few bottle with stickyness but mostly I got it fixed by refilling into a very very clean botle rinsed with sles (thanks claude) but also I dont like the flow of the newer bottles very much and almost always there is a little tiny bit of cloudyness from the moment you get it nowadays. Enough reasons to only buy used. I have to admit that recently I got to like old lava lite century bottle very much. They have great rather opaque colours and also Somehow they tend to clear up a lot when used frequently. I had a purple one which got here a little cloudy and after a few days it was crystal clear like no mathmos I ever had ever was... then I dropped it...it looked like a milkshake...two weeks latsr crystal clear again...I always like mathmos lava better but I guess only die to the fact that I didnt know the old lava lite stuff yet.
I've only had sticky wax in Telstar or Neo bottles but just in general they have zero QC, even with the lamps themselves.
I actually did reach out to them about this specific globe. Even sent them this picture. They told me I voided the warranty when I imported it into the USA, but oddly enough still suggested I return it (at my expense of course). I have since bought several more globes most of which have had the same issue. At this point I've sworn off their products.
I wonder how this is even possible as they claim to have superior quality control and by far the best formula...what a shame. if its brandnew you should return it and have them send you a bottle that isnt DOA.
I agree I’m still having sticky wax issues and plenty of bottles with black debris in the wax!! Not acceptable from such a “ premium” brand.
