GeGe,if its a black metal base,it may be a pre-2000 Midnight..this doesn't mean the globe is pre-2000 tho.The pre-2000 globes tends to "goose egg" after heating and don't "blob".You may try a stronger lightbulb (such as a 60 watt) instead of the 40.Sometimes this does the trick.The made in china globes just aren't the same as the old formula!
