Factory wax using PG and distilled water?

So I bought this badass looking black wax/purple fluid 52oz lamp today. Unfortunately that color combo does not work at all. It's waaay too dark to see anything. So I'm currently in the process of…Continue

"I actually redid the 52 oz lamp I mentioned. It was a personal choice, not because of defect or anything. I purchased the purple fluid with black/dark purple wax and you literally could not see anything moving inside because the colors were too…"

"Just purchased a 16.3 52 oz Schylling a few days ago. It was in perfect order. No cloudiness. Flows good. Takes forever to get going though. It's not bad at all. Typical cheap materials for the base/stand of course, but thats nothing you…"

"Thanks. I will try just the water and surf. My first attempt failed. The wax acted super weird. Like it was melted on the inside as it rose but the outside layer was hard/cooled. And the blobs wouldn't bounce off of one another, they would just…"

"Don’t add PG until it’s running! I recently redid the liquid only on a stock lamp and it turned out to only need water and surf. Had to dump out my fluid mix because the PG all sank to the bottom and undulated in a semi-opaque layer.…"

Factory wax using PG and distilled water?

So I bought this badass looking black wax/purple fluid 52oz lamp today. Unfortunately that color combo does not work at all. It's waaay too dark to see anything. So I'm currently in the process of taking out the factory purple fluid and replacing it with clear fluid. (Distilled water, surfactant and PG) Has anybody tried this? If so did it work? I'm worried the factory wax is going to be too dense and not rise, unless I dump a crapload of PG in there....See More

"Thank you sir. Made a blue liquid with red wax. Still not sure about it though. The reflection of blue light off the red wax makes the lamp appear cloudy even though it's not."

Kyle S replied to KittenChops's discussion Food coloring?
"I personally don’t think food coloring messes up the color of the wax, because I’ve tweaked plenty of my lamps using food coloring, and re-coloring the liquid, etc. The color you use for the master fluid may change how the…"

Tevfik Dogruman replied to KittenChops's discussion Food coloring?
"There are paints for the wax part, but they are not enough. I only use it because I found food coloring in my country. Some are really good. But some are affected by temperature, pH, sunlight (UV) and oxygen in the air. For example: Blue wax dye…"
