Help on choosing glass wear and heat source base

Know how to chemically create a lava lamp, from all the good help on the web site, but what about the glass ware and heating apparatus if I don't have a lava lamp kit,  anybody make a good workable lamp without typical base and glass wear???

Any glass container should work as long as it's thick enough. Check some of the GooKit pics around here - many people have turned things into lava lamps. :)
