This is my first try at sun fading a lamp, I couldn't believe how fast the blue faded. just took about four hours in the sun. The bottle was a white/blue bottle from 1994 that I had found at my local thrift store. You can't tell from the photo, but the wax had started to turn an off yellowish color which turned orange near the base of the bottle when running. This picture was taken after I had transferred the contents to the Carlisle bottle. The wax is now red with yellow liquid, but due to the yellowing of the wax it looks more like a 1970's orange which i just love! I used Christmas red liquid candle dye for the wax, and neon yellow gel food coloring for the liquid.

I am mixed about dying a vintage Century I have. I added a few drops of food coloring to refresh the water, but the wax is super yellow and doesn’t really look blue while in motion. Another issue is that with the yellowing, it has become less translucent which limits how much light can reach the surface flow. I’m mixed, part of me likes the aged look, but the other part wants a vibrant blue and white lamp. I’ll probably just buy an empty globe since the lamp is all original and came with a box and sales tag. Nice job on your refurbishment.

Thanks Keith, i think it was about three to four drops.
That looks great! How much wax dye did you use?
