Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I might be slow on this one, but I went to spencer's today and they had every color of 52oz.  My 2 local spencer's have had nothing for almost a year.  I went to the cashier to buy one and she said they had changed their formula and that this was the new batch.  She also said she hadn't had near as many returns.
I got the clear and green.  The green is really dark and opaque.  It flows really nicely and is totally clear.  I'm so excited!  You can't beat these $20 lamps!!
I'll post pictures when I get a chance!

Could you post a picture of the coil?
Oh boy, I got coil problems! I put the globe on my century since it runs cooler. I ended up adding a little salt to get it to flow, I barely added salt and now it's totally disconnected from the coil and it won't reconnect. I'm afraid I'm going to have to take the liquid out to get it reconnected! What do you suggest? Replacing the coil? If so, with what?
I can't stress how pretty the green wax is though. So thick.
I don't think it's a coil issue if the coil was working fine before.
You can't just add salt to the liquid there is a very specific chemical formula that goes into making that liquid and you probably threw it off by adding the salt.

Jester
Jester is right that adding salt changes the specific gravity... but if the lava is disconnected from the coil that is a coil problem too. There is a good thread about changing out coils here:

I think its best on any new Lava world lamp to run it for a week before doing anything to it... because now we don't know if there are still coil problems.. or you goofed it up with the salt?
Strange to have such a small coil for that size globe, yet it overheats. Hopefully they have a balance between coil size and heat needed, instead of just throwing in a smaller coil to save pennies.
It's connected again-The goo wasn't cycling in the century base I put it on. I had to do something with the water to get it going. I wasn't sure if the salt would work, but i wanted to try it before I trashed the liquid and did my own. Luckily it worked. I emptied a bit of the water out and got it reconnected and it is flowing nicely now. My century is just weird, it just doesn't heat up a lamp like other bases do. I can't just put any globe on it because it won't get hot enough to cycle.
I'm in agreement, I don't think it's a coil problem, I just added too much salt at once and upset it.
Dr. What, did yours ever overheat? Mine did two days in a row on the original base.
Thanks for the link, I have bought some of these springs. Have you? Have you had luck with them? They are so hard to work with. I can't remember if I had much luck.
I guess the green and clear is the lamp from last year as well? Mine is good now after some tweaking. The blue and clear is pretty, I've never seen it.
Any hints on where to find a 30 watt? I've never seen one.
Yea I just want a clear blue.
I saw clear/red and green. Purple/PInk, Purple/Yellow and Blue/white.
Mine is great-the fun is in the tweaking for me! All I really care about is the consistency of the wax.
