finally got my first lamp done!!

I finally finished my first lamp !! woohoo!

 

After 4 of them down the drain this one came out fantastic.

I call it "Tequila Sunrise" the lava is a beautiful tangerine orange with a yellow glow and the bottle was from Margarita Mix so I think the name fits :)

 

Hope they all come out half as good!

Your lava looks great! Can you tell me what wax you used in the lava to get that opaque / non-transparent look. I don't see any bubbles in your lava either. I have been experimenting with creating lava from scratch using container candle wax which has a lower melt point. I even added bees wax. I got the flow looking good but my lava still has lots of tiny bubbles. Whatever wax you used looks like it came out great.

My wax has bubbles but not really noticeable. I used 100% bees wax, 91% alcohol and 70% alcohol.

Just melted the wax, poured it in the bottle, poured the 91% in when the wax melted again it sat on the bottom, I started to add the 70% in little doses until the wax started to rise a bit, then I added a couple of drops of dish detergent and continued to add 70% until the lava rose to the top and then fell back down.

 

I added a small piece of red oil pastel and it mixed with the natural tan color of the wax and I got that sweet tangerine color.

 

I am going to try another one, I hope I didn't just get lucky this first time.

Yes the whole thing hardened when it cooled. What causes that and is there any way to stop it from happening?

i dont know currently. my only alcohol lamp got messed up plan on redoing one soon! Hope it comes out half as good as yours. I noticed you have a coil in yours. mine didnt have a coil maby that will help. i will fish on out of a lamp that has 2 if i need to.
