Cloudy lamps; New cure

I have a cloudy US 32 oz globe from 2003. I have tried 2 hour cycles and 6 hour cycles, no quick significant change. I started running the globe all day from 8am to 11 pm. It is looking much better in just three days. It doesn't overheat and if it looks like it does i turn it off for a while and then turn it back on. Why is this treatment working and has anyone else done this?

I've never seen a grande clear from this procedure. I tried it with the Blue/Whites many years ago.

I gave them away, but to this day, they are still cloudy.

When you say, keep it running, do you mean just leave it on 24/7?

Does this not violate the "never operate more than 8 hours" rule :\ ?

Oh, one other thing, doesnt it depend on WHY it's cloudy?

I mean considering what Paula told me about the cloudy LL's being due to a manufacturing problem, if you

have one of those, I dont think it will ever become clear no matter what you do.

 

I have been running my cloudy yellow/purple Grande every day for several hours, and it has cleared up now enough

to see the lava from across the room, but it's still not clear as it should be.

I think it's reached it's limit and will not get any more clear from running.

 

I do have a "fixed" replacement globe on the way, but who knows how long that will take!?

Sorry to ask but what is this i'm hearing about heating a globe, then putting it the freezer?

I was just curious why not let it sit for a while? What is the procedure?

That is what you are supposed to do. Let it sit in the light stand at least 24 hours.

It has to at lease be room temp when you turn it on, wether cold or warm.

I have noticed that they appear less cloudy after they have been running for a few hours,

then alowed to cool. The room they are in is 68, so on the cool side.

Only problem with cool room is that it takes hours for the Grande's to heat enough to flow.

The only problem is china grandes won't clear. I think i heard that somwhere.

I think your right.

The only real solution for a cloudy Grande is dumping and GooKitting them!

 

I have a cloudy 52oz LL that I have been experimenting with. I tried all kinds of filtration media that SHOULD

have worked, but no luck. The cycling (heating, then sudden cool down to about 60) has helped alot.

Would a rusty cap make  a lamp cloudy its not leaking ,but we cleaned the cap up.resealed it and it cleared up.

Wanna hear something weird?

I bought a cheap new 20oz LL from Fleabay to experiment on. It was as cloudy as skim milk!!

When I got it, I poped the cap off and poured off about 50cc of the liquid to try some filtration methods

(non of which worked)

Anyway, I put the cap back on the lamp and just let in sit untouched in my basement, which is about 65.

After sitting there for about 3 weeks, it is almost perfectly clear!! but it has a very thin whitish residue laying on

the surface of the lava.

I am pretty sure if I were to fire it up, the liquid would become cloudy again.

 

But still, LL maintains that they have not changed their formula. Now how can that be possible??
