I bought a lava lamp for a friends birthday and the postman dropped it over my 6 foot gate as I wasn't in and it survived!

Are you supposed to tip your postman in the UK?
Sounds like the USPS.  Your postal service isn't run by the government is it?
It was a courier and no we don't tip the postman, well I don't anyway.

That was lucky. A dear friend won a red Jet for me on ebay last Christmas, the postman knocked held the box up and said sorry ! It was dripping, completeley shattered.

Really bad packaging, he got his cash back from the seller with not too much hassle.

...I know what you mean.

Its the three pin plugs we have in the UK that did it.

My last ebay purchase was my yellow/orange Astrolamp, The seller had gone to a lot of trouble to wrap and secure the globe , but left the plug base and cap unprotected. the plug scuffed the base in transit and the cap was a bit squashed, otherwise it would have been mint !

TBH i think its down to pure stupity as opposed to carelessness. I mean if you know the buyer could claim it back wouldnt you at least TRY to make it good?

when i box lamps I wrap the cap, base, cone, plug & bottle all seperately in bubble wrap then pack them all in tight so no one part is touching another.

Maybe it comes from caring for lamps due to being an enthusiast but theres no excuse for sloppy packing IMO.

grrrr   :D

Our UK plugs are a wee bit OTT and leathal if you step on them in bare feet... as above !

Think I will ask the seller to cut it of and keep it on any future purchases :)

I have noticed on many of the UK 3 pin plugs they have a protect fuse built into them. They have got to be the largest plugs on products I have seen so far.  Most of the time when I had an older Mathmos sent to me from the UK I asked the seller to just cut that 3 prong off since I was going to rewire. I once had a UK plug do a bad dent on a Astro base and it was ruined. Our
