Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

My review of Lava Lite's new "Designer" 32 oz. lamp

Received my new 32 oz. "Designer" lamp from LL today. Shipping was fast and item was packed well. Customer service was good - I had to cancel and re-order to apply a discount. No problems there.

Globe color: clear/redNumbers on lamp: H4200, 11032401 D (date assembled must be March 24th, 2011). Cap has white and red sticker.

Price paid: $34 shipped (with 10% discount)

The globe, much to my disappointment, was slightly cloudy. However, it was warm today and I really do expect that it might clear up. The clouding isn't as horrible as some I've seen, for sure. What's a little unsettling (pun intended?) is the fuzzies floating around in globe.

Upon first run, I can see some of these little floaties moving around in the liquid.

The finish is fairly cheap-feeling, but OK. Nice to see something new, I guess. I haven't owned any of the 20 oz. globes, but Autumn tells me the finish looks to be the same. The holes arount the base are a nice touch, but are a tad higher than the image sown on Lava Lite's website.

My verdict for now? Don't buy (yet).

Rating as of right now: 6

I am running the lamp now for the first time. Updates to follow.

Mine is pretty much like yours not too many fuzzies though but some, I'm going to run it for a few days and see if it gets better. I like the base though its a nice red.
Post some pics Doctor! Also Erin, in the video why isn't the lamp flowing?

EDIT: Grandees are 252 oz? Probably a typo.
I will this weekend after it runs a little longer but so far I'm on Erin side with this I'm not liking the globe. There's more fuzzies now that it's in the heating stage, But I think the "fuzzies" are just flakes of white wax. So far that only thing that's cool is the base which are painted, you can see the over spray on the inside like the old school painted bases.

one step at at time.

The floaty actually seems to have gotten bigger. This lamp SUCKS.   :(

New video, showing the flow, cloudiness and floaties: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSlLvW0MGBk

Huge flake at 0:26 seconds.

My fuzzies seemed to have disappeared after running it so give it more time. The flow isn't all too bad either really. It took a while to get going but once it did it flowed pretty decent.

Oh man, those fuzzies and flakes are terrible!  What a disappointment. Open a dialog with them.

You have to wonder where these are coming from? maybe its from a filtering system that has this "fuzzy substance" in it like cotton or fiber floss and its getting into the master fluid. Either way they don't belong in the lamp. When I got the new lamp yesterday I also bought one of the silver streaks they have up on the site and it was PERFECT looking and it's china made back in '04. If they'd only reference that formula they'd be okay. I'm going to wait and see what these Spencers lamps are going to be like until I start passing judgement on the new line.

Maybe this is all according to plan.  They made the "Furry" (aka "Fax Hair") Lava Lamp.  They achieved greatness on the exterior of the globe, so why not push the envelope and go for the moon with "Faux Hair" inside the globe?  Brilliant!

LOL Jim. I now see their plan...

Do you think i Lava Lite tried to make a lamp with fuzzies they would manage to get rid of them.
Flow is improved ever-so-slightly. The big floatie is now trapped under the coil. LOL Still semi-cloudy.
