hi guys
not a lava i no, but i was wondering if anyone has tried adding a bit of movement to one of these lamps, i was thinking of somehow putting an air line into it so it brings the lamp to life a bit, any ideas would be great

Hey Krissy thats a really good idea you have there! I don't see why that wouldn't work all you'd have to do is drill a hole in the top cap of the jar. But I don't know how that would work if you have it with it's original base and cap. When I got mine it was mangled so I had to find some sort of canister to hold xenu. Got these at Bed bath and Beyond and I added a remote control LED light bulb to it.
What would be dead neat is if you drilled a small hole through the back of the Alien baby's head and out through its mouth, then insert an airline connected to a small aquarium air pump and control the air flow to make the Alien appear to be dribbling air bubbles.
BTW, that's my Alien you're bidding on and he doesn't breath Earth Oxygen too well.....lol !
Good Luck Krissy :-)
Thats a great idea and would look cool, but I think you might have a problem with evaporation and condensation !
I know from trying to hatch Brine shrimp for my tropical fish in a plastic bottle with an airline...MESS !!!
Good luck with it Krissy :)
lol nice idea pete, i am going to try and get the smallest of air pumps and see if i can fit it in the cap or base, so its not visible, another thought what about connecting air line to his tummy so it looks like an umbilicle cord and feed it up to his mouth, i think they are made of rubber aint they? so should be easy enough to do, good luck with your alien, by the way how is your lunar coming on, have you polished it up yet?
Hey Pete.....you've got a point there ! I think the pump would have to be positioned inside the bottle attached to the underside of the cap with the mains cable running through a hole in the cap. The cap would need to be sealed around the hole and cable to create a vaccum inside the bottle and the pump would draw recirculated air from the continual air pocket which would be replenished from the air expelled through the pipe, so no evaporation or condensation should form hopefully.....what do you recon guys ?

Only seen photos of Xenu Xema lamp, does the wee alien move when warmed up ?
Maybe an impeller type doohickey might add intrest !
Not my cup of tea but look forward to seeing how it turns out.
Is this a wind up Pete ?

Great idea making it look like an umbilicle cord. Not sure if the Alien is rubber....the lid is on tight and I don't want to remove it in case it jumps out and bites me....lol Should be easy enough to screw off though as it looks very much like the screw lid on a large pickling jar......the Alien feels kinda like solid resin when I shake it in the jar which would probably be better for drilling holes. The lunar's polishing up a treat.....although it's turning out to be a right labour of love......also got a couple of custom lunar bottles on order with Harry @ Mathmos, so hoping to show it off with some photos soon. BTW, I'm after another Lunar so let me know if you spot another for sale on your travels..... :-)

Pardon me if I hijack this discussion.....!
While on the subject of these alien lamps, ours (picked up at a boot sale last month for £3) has what looks like some mould floating in the liquid. It clings onto the alien, making him look even more dead than usual!
I've never taken one of these apart before but this one needs a clean-out. Logically therefore, we'll have to empty out the liquid, wash the alien and then replace it and refill the bottle.
So - please can someone tell me, is the alien made of firm enough plastic(?) to withstand washing?
And can you also tell me what the liquid is? Is it just coloured water or is it something special?
