Hello Chris,

There will be a new release of the lava lamps to mark the jubilee and they are plans to produce the lunar lamp again. We do not take any orders just yet and we do not have any exact date to when there will be released.

Word has it that the base design is changed slightly but the bottle is the same and its also questioned weather it will be a 'smart' one or not. 

I am not to sure why they are deciceding to do this - mabie with the extra colours Mathmos wants to get more lava items out.

If it's true, I guess the Lunar will be release in June (Queen's Diamond Jubilee).

I hope new batch of Lunar means new spare parts available :-)

I think its quite true - I have heard from another colector (not on OG) and also from somone from Mathmos.

I think Mathmos will release the items around 2013 as this will be there 50th anversery.

Hi I was 3 weeks ago at mathmos in poole. there they told me that there is a revised version of the lunar type. The bottle is the same as the regular lunar . it came end of 2012 - i think nobody says the true .

I called them today, and they told me they plan to do something special for their 50th anniversary, but not a Lunar.

So we'll see...

I think they should have a special run of Astros called 'Astro Crestworth 50' or something similar to pay homage to the original brand name and history.

On my quest for good news, I emailed Mathmos myself asking if there were plans for Lunar's return, and got this response:

Hi Joel,

Thank you for your mail.
I do hope that you have been contacted by us but if not we offer our
sincere apologies for the delay.
There are no plans to re-launch the Lunar but we do hope to offer
special editions of our existing ranges of Astro Telstar and Astro Baby
and do keep checking our website for new products.

I personally hope they don’t release a new Lunar as it would instantly de-value the Lunar's us collectors have worked hard to acquire, my lamps are not just a collection I admire but they are also a financial investment. I want to see new stuff from Mathmos just not a new Lunar or if they really do release one please tweak the design enough to make sure the originals hold their value!
