I am getting two glitter lamps ready for auction on eBay. I thank everyone that has input into the discussion in Collecting and Problems previously. My problem now is the cost of shipping or postage! I have sold some of my lamps in the past using different shipping agents, but I am always stunned at the price. I have always had people ask for a cheaper price, and had one person (from the USA) upgrade to the best and fastest service. My question is (eventually) do people have a problem with the shipping or postage cost. The lamps weigh coming up to 3kg, and I'm struggling to find a decent courier or shipper at a reasonable price.
I have sent an item economy to the States recently (not a lamp) and it hasn't arrived, so I won't be doing that again.
I would like to offer the lamps worldwide, but I have to pay extra to offer that now. Just wondered how much shipping/postage prices were in the scheme of things.
Sorry for the long post, been on the Gin and Tonics whilst searching for couriers etc.
Are collectors generally concerned about delivery time? I have just had a parcel arrive in the states that took 45 days, with the Parcel Force Economy Service. I got a bit stressed as I didn't expect it to take so long (web-site states up to 30 days), but when I got in touch with Parcel Force they said in their experience it can take up to 60 days!! I did say I wouldn't use a slow or non-tracked service again - but then perhaps Buyers are prepared to wait rather than the huge cost of the faster tracked services. I would just like to offer an affordable decent delivery service that won't put off potential Buyers. Thanks for your help.
Aye, its difficult and expensive with the new pricing system. I charge actual shipping costs, but it still seems expensive. Apart from one Buyer upgrading to Global Priority, most beg for cheaper shipping - but I can't really charge less than what it actually costs.
Maybe I should do as one numpty asked me - "can you take out some of the packaging to make it lighter?". I felt like replying - "of course sir, I'll remove it from its really strong and secure box, remove the foam and some of the bubble wrap, and place it in a jiffy bag for you". I decided not to reply instead ..... lol.
