Whether by Goo Kit or Refill with existing wax/liquid, I thought it might be fun and educational to share some of our refurbished lamp successes.
I had a 1974 green/blue Century with chunky wax that didn't respond to boiling. I put up with it for awhile, and then finally decided to put it and me out of its misery. I saved the liquid and the wax and cleaned up the globe. I'll probably do some sort of hybrid, Jus-like experiment with the wax someday. :>)
Several months back, OG member Dave P. sold me a 1975 Century with red wax that had emulsified into the yellow liquid. I filtered the liquid with my newly purchased MSR Gravity AutoFlow, and it came out a clear, vintage yellow. I also saved the red wax - it may be good. It's possible someone just mistreated this Century globe by shaking it!
I then took two 32 oz lime green/clear globes from 96-97 and extracted the lime green wax.
Finally, I put most (but not all) of the lime green wax from the 32 oz globes and the filtered yellow liquid from Dave P.'s Century into my now clean 1974 Century. (Whew - say that fast!)
I'm pleased with the results - a lime green/yellow Century!

Very nice, Keith! I'm gonna have to learn to do that one of these days.
Looks great Kirk! Well done. :) I love to see lamps fixed... even if I suck at it. ;)
Thanks, ya'll.
Libby - being referred to as Keith is quite a compliment! ;>)
Erin - i've had my share of failures, and this hobby is teaching me patience! The other positive to fixing lamps is it keeps me off Ebay and saves me $$!
No kidding. I'm glad the hysterical days of buying on eBay are mostly done for me. I remember a Carlisle I wanted one went higher than I bid and I nearly cried. Took me a long time to learn that another one will almost always come around!
EGAD, Kirk, sorry about the name screw up!! LOL I don't think Keith will mind if you don't. :-) I have a couple of lamps coming from Simon you could re-wire for me. I think they're the metal based ones. I could do the plastic, but not sure about the metal ones, althought I guess hubby could give it a whirl (so to speak).

I also have a couple of lamps coming from Simon! (Can't wait!!) I bought a couple of those converters, but I'm with you -- they really should be rewired. I've had a little experience with this task, and it can be a bit of a challenge.
I can't wait either!! I've never had a Jet. I have the same doubts about the converter and also the bulbs, that you do. I would much rather they be re-wired for the US. But not sure I can wait to re-wire to see them run! The instructions Erin, Autumn and all posted here are very good ones. I know I can do the plastic based ones, but mine being metal, not sure if I'm up to that challenge---yet.

Thanks, Trevor. That's probably what I'll do too, at least for a while. I still want them re-wired eventually though.
Kirk, I love it!
It is Jus-like...AWESOME! *wink/grin*
Seeing as Kirk is awesome, I don't mind ;)
