Yep, Paula, Steppenwolf has always been a favorite of mine and John Kay "rocks." He also now lives in the GREAT state of TENNESSEE, too bad it's "Middle TN," and not "East TN." LOL I used to have to dive across the room to turn down the sound when "The Pusher" came on. They use a very "bad" word in that song, and if my Mama had heard it, I would have been smacked into next week, and Steppenwolf would have been in the garbage can. :-)
Ha that's amusing about "diving" to mute the lyrics from your mom. Ah those were the days of our idealistic youth. But I'm still a flower-child, still an idealist.
I never understood why he never made The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He's got a body of work that few people really know about or appreciate beyond his prominent hits. I'm just amazed at the way he turns a phrase sometimes. Though, some of his albums were produced during a time of cocaine addiction I believe, and the lyrics are dark and even misogynist. I'm glad to see he is one of the lucky ones to emerge out of a drug abyss to be happy and healthy.
He tours you know? Check the website. I saw him for the first time in 1970, Randall's Island NYC. Was blown away (he's also very sexy). So decades later I have a renewed interest in him and am happy to see he tours. I've seen him several times. Hoping he comes to Westbury, NY again, or maybe we'll go see him in Morristown, NJ.
Yes his property is right next to the Howenwald Elephant Sanctuary. I thought he was moving back to Canada because his wife has terrible allergies because of the high pollen out there.
What are your favorite songs? Mine are Ostrich, The Wall, and Nothing But.
I'm wondering about the demographic on this site. Are you all mostly from that era ... like me ... 60ish in age?
If you're a big music fan, you need to go to off topic discussions and find Aladdin 2 Lava's "Post your music videos here" discussion. We post You Tube videos and/or links, and talk music there. I'm sure with thousands of members, there are some in your age range. I'm not there yet. LOL
oh ok, thanks.
It doesn't matter though, Paula, if you want your own discussion, that's fine and dandy. I just thought you'd enjoy the other one, since everyone has already posted a lot of vids there and are used to going to it. Look for an Avatar with David Bowie on it. Aladdin is a major fan......as are many of us.
Sure MG, that is a better idea. I saw the youtubes/videos forum but didn't know if talking about a group in general would fit there. But sure I'll check it out. Yes I've notice a David Bowie avatar .. just haven't absorbed all the "information overload" :) here yet.
It takes a bit of time to absorb things here. :-) Not too sure I have yet myself. You can talk about anything music in Aladdin's discussion, you don't have to just post links and vids.
Very good.
I have fond memories of jumping in my friend's Cutlass Supreme and cranking up "Magic Carpet Ride". What a great time we had!
One of my favorites, the song, not the "lead sled." LOL Or was it a "sleeper?"
Nice. I have fond memories of boogie-ing to a lot of Steppenwolf. Check out his less known songs .... he and his musical colleagues are brilliant.
