Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

What's your favorite music to play while lava lamping?

I run my lamps while gaming and listening to music... basically, my daily routine. I worked in Harrisburg's last record store for many years so my collection is extremely varied. While I listen to pretty much anything (and am partial to oldschool punk/hardcore and hip hop beats), certain music really fits well with the ambiance my lamps give off. Animal Collective, 13th Floor Elevators, Phantogram, Massive Attack, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Liturgy, Madlib... these are some of my favorite artists to spin when I just want to chill (i.e. playing my NES/SNES instead of my Xbox One lol)

So what music do you enjoy putting on when you have your lamps flowing and you really want to chill? I'm hoping to cop some new grooves :-)

I love The Lightning Seeds.....The Life of Riley man! They don't get much air time in the U.S. at all. My music tastes are very diverse.....Abba to Zappa and so much more, all genres (except Rap, Hip Hop can't stand it). But when I really want to just sit and watch my lava, especially the bigger lamps I want something soothing. Between a nice slow stretchy lava flow and some amazing Jazz vocals I can just recline, and relax. I will save the up beat stuff for when I am up and active, oh and the lava can still flow too.

Liam, I like your style. One of the best soundtracks ever.

Jerry Goldsmith's sound track to Alien.

My Mom likes Barely Man Enough too!    Just teasing Critter... has me a little intrigued to give it a listen.  Very, very true about my Mom being a fan, but I sense this may not be my Mom's type of Manilow.  I pretty much know a lot of his lyrics by heart listening to it blare in the house when I was a kid (8-track).

Anything from Colin Hay.

Ooooh Men at Work dude.  His solo recordings are quite good!

LOL Jim!  Well you will have to be an old school jazz fan to get into it.  I suspect most any psycho, hardcore Manilow fan will have the recording but most probably don't listen much…..it is in no way a Pop Record.

If you do give it a listen, I get my man card back…..and I'm going to get it laminated too!.

There is a pretty interesting story to that recording too.  The group came together to do the recording and decided to give the material a run through.  Well they started playing and singing one song after another with each flowing into the next (remember all are / were amazing musicians even Manilow) and at the end of the one time run through they all realized they'd done something really special and wished they had recorded it.  Well, the recording engineer was smart enough to have recorded it much to the group's surprise and that one time run through was all it took.

Absolutely am Bill - was a "band geek" in high school (trumpet) and that really sets a foundation for music appreciation.  I might have to see if Mom does have it so I can grab it for a listen.
