Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi guys,

I recently bought 3 astros from mathmos. The first one, a clear/deep violet was stated black on mathmos french site and a clear/turquoise, the two of them being some commemoration of some sort, the violet coming in black robe and the turquoise in neon blue, called 'insulated' .

Anyway, aside from the color, the purple is good. The turquoise had issues since the first time, white chunks in it, bubbles. When I reach mathmos about it, they offered me a replacement bottle.

In the meantine I ordered a yellow/green_blue that turned out to be as bad as the turquoise. Bubbles and bad oils too. I complained too, had them remember the replacement bottle and finally got it to discover that the clear/pink promissed turned out to be a clear/violet...

So... the whole thing got me a liitle worked out about mathmos, the quality and the brand.

First, mathmos. Even if the spokesperson was willing to do something I had to remind her.. Then, on 2 lines of products (it is stated that bottles aren't to be swapped on bases not to dammage them because of the temperatures I presume (unless it is a genious trap...)) I got bad products. One of the bottles has a tiny crack at the bottom, fortunately with no leaks yet and the mixture or the couple conception_heat/mixture were bad. And last the brand...

I bought my first a decade ago because I loved the way they flow. I love them less these days. My 'vintage' astro babies or telstar or my lunars still give me pleasure when I see the oils waving to the top, then split and drip all along the way down but these newly aquired are much more lavaworld than mathmos. They reaches to the top without jiggling, split into some then drip one or 2 times and that's it. More, as the lamps run hot, they produce balls that stay a bit on top before going down, just like lavaworlds's. Pfff..

So, it came to my mind that this is only a matter of density. The way the older ones works is surely based on oils mixture but also on density differences. Then how do I make them flow like my lunars ?

Yes the quality of Mathmos had wavered over the years, in my view it's still way better then LL / others
They have probably changed the formula slightly - how to get it flowing like a lunar I don't know, would have to fully know and understand the Mathmos formula to say. Its very minor changes that are needed not just add some pg, salt surf or solvent etc

Sorry to hear about this idOrU... even the Mathmos team let a few stinkers Through now and then !!!

They replace any bottles I am disappointed with and I am more than happy with their c/services.
