Well, I figured the only good way to really do it justice and properly clean and restore my Larry Albright plasma globe was to tear it apart. I then cleaned and polished the acrylic case, blew out the dust and carefully cleaned the globe. I had to be careful with the globe as the only thing keeping it attached to the base was some silicone adhesive.
Here is the outer box. It is all handmade from black acrylic and is not molded plastic.
And here are the guts free of the outer box. I found a dead but huge damselfly inside here. Due to its handmade nature, there are no UL endorsement labels anywhere! You can see just how filthy it is.
And a close up of the guts.
Here I overexposed on the globe to show off how the globe action is reflected in the sides and bottom of the box.
Here it is running in all its cleaned and restored glory.
And a shot with the flash to show off the shiny outer box made of acrylic. I spent a few hours this morning cleaning and polishing it.
This is a very reactive globe and it makes some wonderful textures in the plasma on the higher settings.
