(Lava Chat) |
Just ordered 2 goo kit 52 oz candidates yesterday!!! Don't know if I'm going to try and salvage the black goo though. From the pics it looks like it's pretty shredded. Don't know if they were shaken, attempted fluid change, or overheated fried lava. Usually fried lava doesn't shred like that. I'm going to melt it down and see when it hardens what I have to work with. If it's ok, I may attempt some distilled and surf with the LL goo and add some green food coloring for a green/black. The other will be a purple/white. I'm also on the hunt for another 52 oz globe only to swap out a problem child globe that has fogged up. The lamps comes Wednesday. The hold up is probably going to be Magma as they take FOREVER to ship. I'm going to call them tomorrow to make sure they ship a bit faster this time. Maybe I can light some fire under their you know whats, lol!!!

You may be able to save the wax but that water is toast, the dye from the wax looks like it has bled into the water. With the way that wax is sticking to the globe a very thorough cleaning is in order! I like the colors you're planning
Oh yea on the through cleaning!!! Hey Keith, do you think I should buy some Brakeleen?? I really don't like using stuff that is toxic or has a heavy smell, but........I was thinking I have some goo b gone, but that's just as potent. I def need a strong degreaser and I need to find a bottle brush that doesn't have any thickness to the middle because it can't get past the thin neck of the 52 oz'ers!! Where do you buy brakeleen? Automotive store?
That's how the liquid in my purple neon looked after I insisted on running it and falling asleep!!! Susan from LL said exactly what you said. The lamp gets so hot that the stuff from the wax bleeds into the liquid. Wasn't planning on keeping anything out of those lamps except the globe, base and cap. Was going to ask the seller to empty them and offer cheaper shipping, but some aren't comfortable with that and I didn't want him screwing up the cap. Shipping was 17.00 and the lamps were only 15.00 for the 2. Still not a bad deal at 13.50 a piece. He said there aren't many of those occlusions in them either. God I hope not!!!
Good price on those. :)
HOT water, dawn, and scrubbing should be enough.
(too hot can break the globe if not careful)
Brakekleen can be very toxic, use carefully if you do. Outside only!
I used bleach on the one bad boy and still had an issue with some unknown stuck "stuff" around the crease in the very bottom of the one lamp!!!! I'm going to my local beauty supply and buying a big thing of acetone. Chad, the OG member who makes all those big gookit lamps suggested acetone and it may be a good thing to use because my son's lamp has food coloring now stuck to whatever that white oily film is that is stuck on the inside of the globe. If it can take off paint and nail polish, it can take off anything. It also eats the nail glue off of those professional nail tips that I used to have put on!!! Nasty stuff, but it's worth a try. Now that I have all of the window's open I can do a quick acetone rinsh and that should get rid of any remaining films that may be lingering inside of these globes.......I hope!!
