Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi all, I'm in the US, and am trying to get some Mathmos lamps. Has anyone tried UKAddress.com? It seems like it is reasonably priced, and exactly what I'm looking for. Thoughts?

Cheers!

i ordered an astro from electric planet back in 2009 and i definitely remember every part of the process.  i can't say that for any of the lamps i've purchased in the US.  the anticipation!

My thoughts exactly!  I look at all the Mathmos lamps and drool.  :>)  My blue/yellow Fluidium is on its way to the UK address.  I'll keep you posted.

Now the really hard part. Deciding on which one(s). ;)

Nice!  I went with the Clear/Orange heritage, as it's most likely a limited Halloween release from the sounds of it.  If that goes well, then I see some serious spending in my future.  ;)

Use caution with these types of sites guys. Most don't or won't deal with shipping liquids. Been there done that....just sayin'.

I read on one of their disclosure forms that liquids won't pass customs, and was like.....um, not trying it.  I'll wait for someone else to be the guinea pig, lol!!!  I hope all goes well with these guys getting their lamps!!!

I actually finally decided to try one of these services just last week. I used forward2me.com to order the new yellow base + blue/clear Fluidium. They charged £34.96 for DHL Express shipping (which, if I remember correctly, is about what Electric Planet used to charge) plus a one-time £2 signup fee. I placed the order 10/17, Mathmos shipped 10/20, forward2me notified me they had the shipment on 10/22, I paid, and they re-shipped on 10/23, and the package just arrived today (10/27).

It took me a while to get over the £2 signup-fee (though it seems fair, since they're permanently allocating you an address), but I'm quite happy with the service now that I tried it. They didn't do any special packing, but Mathmos's packing was fine. Judging from time in transit, the package was probably handled just as much on the way to forward2me as it was on the way to me.

I'd certainly be interested to hear how UKAddress goes. I definitely see some new Mathmos lamps / globes in my future.

Oh yeah... I didn't see that they added that color! If you choose to use one of these proxies, you could also just order a Astro base and cap. It will weigh less and not have liquid. Then, you can use a Grande globe and either GooKit or glitter. I happened to buy an extra base and cap when I was in England... Mathmos is great that way.. they will sell the non-liquid parts.
Good to know! This is the second success story I have heard. I imagine that if you are worried about some kind of credit card theft you might be able to go he extra mile and buy a prepaid visa and register your address or something... dunno. Seems like Alfred picked a winner at least!

I mean Century...not Grande... I keep saying you can put a Grande on an Astro and that would be really funny/tragic. The century sized lava lite globes tend to fit on Astros... that is what I mean to say

Alfred,

What was the total cost in US currency?

The total cost was £101.96 for the Fluidium (though it would be £99.96 the next time around). The cost in USD will depend on exchange rates and and any fees charged by your credit card. (Google will do currency conversion, if you want to see current exchange rates. Just use this search: 101.96 GBP in USD.)

Thanks....not that I have the money to do this now, but was just wondering for future reference!!!
