Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi all, I'm in the US, and am trying to get some Mathmos lamps. Has anyone tried UKAddress.com? It seems like it is reasonably priced, and exactly what I'm looking for. Thoughts?

Cheers!

Great can't wait to see some pictures!

Can you guys post pictures/ maybe Youtube videos of the lamps as they come in the box, and as you remove them, showing the packaging and the wiring, etc.?  That would be VERY useful for the other members here on the forum.  Hopefully we can learn the best way to purchase these from Mathmos, and also what is necessary to rewire the lamps if folks want to do that.  Thanks!

sure will.  Mine is just getting to Forward2me today, so will still be a while.  I don't plan on re-wiring immediately.  I want to see the flow as intended by Mathmos before I rewire.

I've got 5 on the way from various places, so I'll require the one I like the least.  ;)  In the meantime, I've got these waiting:

The Mathmos telstar I got from lights.com is already wired to US, but it runs to hot.  My dimmers should be getting to me today, so I'm hoping I can dial that one in.  I'm a little suspect on the bottle though.  (that it might not be Mathmos)  I'll be posting pictures later today.

cheers,

Brian

Mine should be there tomorrow. An EBay UK lamp too? Good for you.
This is all great info! I want an assortment of astro bottles.
Big bummer to hear the USA telstars from lights.com have not-so-impressive bottles and run hot/need a dimmer. Are they *choke* cloudy? I've been contemplating getting one for some time. They were offering blue/green (only) for around $50 at one point. I figured they'd be perfect.
You guys sure have gone through hurdle after hurdle with this purchase I hope it all works out for you.
I am pretty sure the lights.com bottles are pure Mathmos. I bought a pink and clear and then picked up a blue/green bottle in England. They are identical and perform the same from what I can tell... they both do overheat on the lights.com US voltage telstar but they are also installing a bulb that is at least 5W too hot. I pulled the bulb and it is 40W, but the fixture includes a stock sticker that says 35W. My assumption is that they ended up using whatever bulb was "close" and available... in short, US telstar requires a dimmer to prevent overheating. I personally love the blue/green color. I saw the lights.com deal and it would have been a bargain at $50. I don't think you can get one in the UK for that.

Alright, packages made it to Forward2me, and have already been shipped from there to me in the states.  So, assuming they make it to me, I paid a total of $62 for shipping for an Astro, and 2 packs of 3 light bulbs.

And my blue/yellow Fluidium is shipping to me via DHL Express for $58.67. Yay!

Call me paranoid, but shouldn't we keep this "UnderCover Brother"  ?

Their staff may run across 'this thread' while surfing and put an end to it ?

Putting on tin foil hat

You mean Mathmos staff, right?  I really don't think it's any different than having Mathmos ship the lamp to a UK friend, and they ship it on to us.

We just all have a new UK friend now in Forward2Me!

Wearing tin foil.  Pinching myself.  This is good.

I have preliminary tracking number from 'them'

We will refer to them as 'them'

But no depot scan.  I'm excited !

I had to call my cc company and add my new uk addy to the card. (temporary; for a few hours)

I had to call my cc company to tell them I was buying in the uk. (temporary; for a few hours)

I live in the USA so fraud protection kicked in.

Ten phone calls to the cc company and two website declines later; SCORE !
