Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Got this guy on ebay last week. Almost done now, just waiting on my glitter replacement to arrive! This little guy was in rough shape when it arrived.

I thought I was the only person to have added center sockets! I put them on both of mine. These never came with one when new. Mine are wired ahead of the switch, so they always stay on, and I've out LED bulbs in those center sockets.

Finally installed the third bulb - it makes such a difference illuminating the dial

Thanks for the photos, very useful... this is the best shot...

Thanks, Z - I still really like the effect of the third bulb under the dial, will get round to that when time permits and post on your thread...

Meanwhile, I hope you caught the rubber feet before any heat damage was done... these towers are superb when lit, but it seems to me they were only meant to be used over relatively short periods, like when the M-in-L came round... to remind her of the time...

Here's one of mine, I've fitted LEDs and sourced some very static glitter (from Kirk) a while back so the towers don't need the incandescent heat

So long as it's on a glass base it's OK for an hour or two, but I don't leave mine on too long - even with the LEDs

Yeah i came to the realization of how hot mine gets as well. I think i am going to get an LED bulb for the clock to reduce the heat a little. It got so hot that the new rubber feet i installed stuck to the base when i took it apart to take these photos. Also make sure if you paint yours to use heat resistant automotive paint... i learned my lesson on the first try lol! And yes that is new glitter i used from an lava lite glitter lamp i got off of Amazon.

Hi Z

That looks a relatively easy job - one for a quiet evening, many thanks for the pictures...I do like the effect of the third bulb on the dial numbers

That new (?) multi glitter looks nice too

One thing - with my two, when they run with the tower lights on for any length of time the base gets hot, so with that extra (third) incandescent bulb in there, I'm guessing you need to stand it on a heat-resistant surface?

Overall, I'd say your little guy must be pretty pleased with his new home!
