Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi folks,
Just doing a bit of self-advertising - desperate for a few sales!!!
LOL
I've just put one of those boiler lamps on eBay - the thing that spirals a tube of fluid upwards and appears to make it boil.
It here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3304803929...

And it got me wondering if these boiler lamps can be classed as lava lamps or are they just far-flung relatives?

Wow, that's a really nice lamp, I've never seen one of those before. I would love to add that to my collection.
Ooooh, I like that. How old is it? Are those just a UK thing?
Thanks for the thoughts and info - I really know very little about these lamps and you're all adding to my knowledge.
Needless to say, we got this at a bootsale about 3 years ago - cost £1.
Lovely condition - nothing more than a few very minor wear-marks on the base.

Under the base there's a label with the usual safety warnings - and it says its "Designed for Premier Decorations Ltd.
Their website says they are - "Designers and Importers of
• Christmas Lighting and Decorations
• Summer Lighting and Outdoor Living Products
• Halloween Products and Party Decorations - selling directly to the Trade only."

Apparently the lamp is filled with Dichloromethane and saturated calcium chloride - sounds a bit evil!
Age - no idea although on the label it says 2003 Batch - which is probably it's age. (could just be a reference....)

And as for how much they're worth.....we're still waiting for bids!
Will you ship to the US?
What exactly does the lamp do? Does the wax come out of the tube at the top like a volcano then go down to the base and back up again. Sorry if that sounds totally thick lol.
Yep - I'm always willing to ship anything anywhere!!

Only problem is the cost - Royal Mail says it'll be £17.43 by Small Packet post - I'll round that to £18.00 for convenience! (Gotta make a profit somewhere - LOL!)
EXACT price may vary with the weight - but that's fair guesstimate.
Hi Susan - it isn't easy to explain except to say that the fluid climbs the tube and gathers in the chamber at the top until it's about half full.
Then bubbles start to climb the tube - making it look as if it's boiling - but it doesn't overflow or anything exciting! But it does make you wonder where it all comes from - and goes to.....
And in the meanwhile the liquid in the main bottle warms too and makes the little bits of glitter rise and fall.
All very twee!!!

I try to get a short video clip on here tomorrow.....
So about $28 US to ship? That's not too bad.
I don't suppose you'd sell it outright? I have to ask :)
Now what am I supposed to say to that??
(Serves me right for mentioning it here, I guess!)

I've got to be honest and say that if I had my way, I'd sell it to the best offer....but my missus "owns" the lamp and she wants it to stay on auction.
And what she says, it's safer (for me) to go along with! :-(

Anyway - I enjoy watching the bids come in - eventually!

I'll see if she's in a good mood tomorrow....
LOL, I was thinking of asking you for a buy it now price. I totally hate bidding for things on ebay and try to avoid it at all costs. :)

Hope you get good money for it at auction, I'm sure you will :)
