Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hey all, I'm new to the site. Its good to see a site dedicated to Lava Lamps and what an array of obsessive collectors-LOL ;)

Anyway I recently acquired a White Mathmos Jet with clear liquid and red lava.
The wax seems to heat up fine and rises in quite large blobs for the most part, only breaking off to floating balls every so often. More often than not the whole appendage will sink back in on itself. Rarely is the wax getting higher than two thirds of the way up and it never reaches the top.

I was wondering if this is normal behaviour for a Jet. I expected alot more upper vase action and "blobbing" as I've seen with other, cheaper clone lamps I've got.
I'm using a 30watt bulb. Is this the recommended wattage? Does anyone use a 40watt bulb with any success.

It is still great to watch I'm just worried in case the wax is on the way out and I need to limit its usage.

Seems the Lamp just needed a few days of running in after a few years of storage. Its now blobbing and rising like a trooper.
