Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello all,

I have a Midnight Century that was given to me on my 18th birthday from my mom. This lamp is very nostalgic for me as it has been with me my entire adult life. When I turn on the lamp, it heats up then creates one large column that is full of bubbles. I’m not exactly sure how to alleviate this. The water is probably a half inch low but I’m not sure how this causes bubbles. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to correct this? I’d love for my old friend to be fully functional again.
