Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi, I am new and I always loved lava lamps and am starting a collection of them.
One of my Lava lamps Red/clear has unfortunately fell off my desk a while back. It was going as usual and my dog pulled the cord and CRASH it hit the ground. I turned it off immediatly after and set it aside for a day. I fired it up and sucuessfully melted the wax back together but it still remains foggy.I let it sit in my closet for a month and yes It looks a little better but still no dice...
So What do you guys think?

You can keep running it and it might eventually clear up. This will take a long time. Or you can pop the top and filter it which will clear it up instantly. It's totaly up to you.
(assuming that you have a dishwasher with a heated dry setting) Load your globe into you dishwasher, run with or without detergent. Make sure your dry feature is on! Sometimes takes more than one run, but it did wonders for a few eBay buys!
I never hard about that technique. My only question is how safe is it? I really dont want it to explode and destroy the dishwasher or destroy my lamp. And how well does it clear them up? This is probably my last resort to popping the top and refilling the liquid. Thanks!
A dishwasher doesn't get hot enough to melt plastic, so it won't make your lamp "explode"! I've done it to everything from Grandes to 10 ouncers... no worries!
Hmm. If I can add something to this from experience - COVER THE BOTTLE CAP with tape or something that will seal it from the water. These guys can rust bad if your not careful.

Also Vixen - lol - how did you come about this? How does the dishwasher make a cloudy lamp clear again? Lol. I am lost.
I used Vaseline on the cap... not water soluble! Looking for ways to clean lamps safely is how I came about this technique... slippery little suckers, even with a towel lined sink! I noticed that the tiny globuals of wax that were clouding my midnights were disappearing after using the dishwasher... seeming to get warm enough to "rejoin" them to the warmed bottom glob! I've cleared a few, did WONDERS for my China Grandes!
I would advise to leave the lamp inside the DW until it is cool to the touch... don't wanna cloud it back up again!
Hmm - very interesting. Vaseline - who would have thought. That stuff has a million uses. Not just for sex and lips! :D

If I ever get a cloudy lamp, I will try that trick before a filter.
Maybe more so for "personal satisfaction" than anything else. Hard to wash off, but does wonders for the skin. *shrug*

Lol
We're all gonna pretend we don't know what you mean....
Jock itch & yeast infections aside.....

So, you haven't tried my DW method?
Yes I did try to put it in the DW but it came out cloudy. Itry it out again a couple more times and see what happens. If not ill try to run it daily to eventually clear it up.
Thanks Everyone for the support
If a weeks run doesn't work, try the Brita Filter Pitcher. I'm ready to buy one for some of mine!
