Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

So I decided to try filtering the foggy clearview, but it appears my filter filtered it too good.  IT cleared it up wonderfully....but now it won't flow.  See pics.  I used a Pure-Easy solder mini filter (http://www.amazon.com/PureEasy-Soldier-Portable-Filter-Purifier/dp/... as I thought I read on a thread here somewhere that someone else used this same one and had excellent results).  It did filter the fogginess right out, and it didn't appear to take the surf or anything else but it must have taken something since now it won't flow at all and just kind if crawls up the sides of the globe and sticks.

Photo 1 was what it looked like right after filtering but before heating up.  2 and 3 is what it did when hot.  On my profile there is a pic of it cloudy.

Ewwww... That's a frustrating mess.

wow - never seen anything like that before.  maybe remove the fluid again, heat the wax, let it cool, then try again?  it may be FUBAR.

did you take the wax out too and scrub the globe ?

i always empty the globe completely , scrub with very hot water and a square cut of a new scrubby and a stick and dish washing soap. I always coat the bottle with surfactant before putting the wax back in . You may need to add some surfactant back into the liquid but will definitely need to change the density of the water back . I also usually put some PERC back into the wax as some evaporates when its opened and the wax exposed to air . Its all a balancing act and pretty delicate sometimes

I think the filter does have a carbon element inside the ceramic.  I just assumed the surf passed through ok because I was getting suds bubbles.  I did not remove the wax and/or clean the globe since the only issue w/ this lamp was the cloudy fluid.  It doesn't flow at all now, doesn't even try.

It's not the filter, I used on many bottles before it broke.

It worked perfectly on Mathmos products and a Grande.

As other says, I would clean the globe, pour some surf with water to rinse it, then put back everything in it.

Good luck.
