Astra has made me paranoid about the colors not showing up right in pictures, and this picture is the same.  They are really beautiful, and look nothing like this.

Good for your wife, Keith!   They are very dangerous, and at your back door is beyond the pale!   We have had two right up against our garage door, and little ones could probably find a way inside.   Your little son might not be as vigilant as your wife and yourself.  Who thinks to look down as they step out the door---besides us?   Yikes.......

My wife killed a few copperheads at our back door while I was at work Monday.  One was a momma with live babies inside, (not ready for birth).  Don't want to get a nest of them started right at our feet!

LOL, you'd always be welcome, Pete!   I sent you a PM with my address to Google Earth it.   If a poisonous snake is not in our yard, or heading that way, and are on one of the lower two levels of our land, we leave all vipers alone.  But Copperheads do not warn you at all.  They all bite to protect themselves, I'm the one that sticks a gun in their face to protect me and my husband and pup's lives.   Their bites are "life threatening" and/or deadly."   I won't take that chance.  My family is more important to me than a poison snake that could kill any of us.

No Libby I've never heard or seen a venomous snake that big.

I can only speak of my own encounters.

They hiss and puff up to let you know "back off and leave me alone"

How else can they protect themselves... stick a gun in yer face !!!

Thank you for the invite to your mountain... the wildlife and waterways and all the little critters.

Pete, have you "ever" seen a Timber Rattlesnake nearly as big as I am?   One bite, you're dead meat, same with the Copperheads, and they do not warn you at all, they just lay the fangs to you.  I'd 10 times rather have a few field mice in the basement in the fall than "ONE" poisonous viper in my yard.  We do not harm non-poisonous snakes.  Come on up here and see how much you love our poisonous vipers.  ;-)
