Astro baby not flowing well

Hi all,I have an Astro baby that doesn't want to flow too well. I basically get 1 small blob up and down. Doesn't matter how long I leave it on. I currently have it hooked up to a step up converter…Continue

Does anyone know where to buy these or something similar that will work just as good? I'm in the process of making a homemade lamp out of an old milk bottle and need a tension breaker.Continue

"Hmm I can somehow understand that you wanne leave it like it came from mathmos but adding small amounts of glycerin until it flows like desired doesnt do harm in any way, running it hotter on the other hand might reduce the overall lifespan of the…"

"Probably, but I'm not cracking open a Mathmos. It was so expensive just getting it here to Michigan. I'm not going to risk messing up the formula permanently. I'll either get a hotter bulb or use a shirt."

"That makes senseIt probably needs a density adjustment"

"My current setup is 2, 200w converters. One for my Astro and one for the Astro baby. There is no sharing involved. The Astro flows perfect, the baby does not. Doesn't make much sense to me, however, wrapping the baby in a shirt for 30 minutes…"

"In my experience, Step-up transformer ratings do not supply the same voltage and current(amperage) when near full wattage ratings.I've owned many of them in different wattagesFor example, 6+ 40-watt lamps will not flow when applied to a…"

Claude J replied to KittenChops's discussion Astro baby not flowing well
"I found that step-up transformers need to be at least 100% overrated in wattage to work properly"

"Hmm. I don't believe so. It's blue wax and blue liquid. It has a 28w bulb wich seems low to me."

"Is this a clear/blue special fill? Mathmos released a clear/blue and clear/green special fill and both had issues with flow. Something is wrong with the formulation, but as you found they can achieve normal flow if you use a hotter bulb. I use 35w…"

"Yea considering it's a Mathmos I'd rather not tamper with taking the cap off etc. "

"Yeah, I suggested that above as well. Though I tend to hold off making permanent adjustments like that unless I have to."

Arne replied to KittenChops's discussion Astro baby not flowing well
"alternatively you could adjust flow with glycerin."

"Awesome! I will check that bulb out. It's obvious the 28w isn't enough. Thanks again!"

"That's great to hear! Should be relatively easy to remedy. My older Astro Baby has a screw in e14 base, but I think the new ones don't. They take that GU10 Halogen bulb with 2 prongs.A quick look on google shows that a 35w GU10 220v bulb…"

We have been selling products to fulfill the needs but have run out now

We are waiting on new chemicals to arrive so we can make the wax mix more affordable and not use additional chemicals.
The new chemical will also allow us to use additional microcrystalline wax so the flow will be reminiscent of the 1990s Haggerty Chicago flow
