Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

What the hell?

This is the second quart of goo I've put in there...it's doing exactly what the last one did. It's swelling up after several hours, and rolling over, but after 48 hours on, it STILL will not flow, or even erupt. :(

I just can't have a grande that works, apparently. :(

Should I try to get YET ANOTHER quart of goo?

Is this caused by some other problem? This is my first grande, goo-kitted or not.

what kind of bulb do you have in it

I have a 100 watt reflector bulb. Maybe the bulb housing has moved somehow, and is too low or something?

If its goo kit, ive hah the same problem with new wax.

Its a issue with the gookits, I would hold off on getting another quart untill others had had better luck with them (i.e. the batches improve)

I guess your option could be to redo the water as you would for lamps that don't flow.

I ordered a goo kit at the same time you did.  Mine wouldn't flow either, until I added epsom salt.  Didn't take much at all...

Keep adding surfactant
The last two grande goo kits I built took SIX OUNCES of surf to flow!

They are now awesome

This is weird I literally just got a gookit thursday and have it running already.........  and perfectly. How much surf did you use Loren? I used 65ml. Also you can try a bulb extender see if that gets it going. Maybe try another bulb? It doesn't make any sense that its not flowing after 5 hours. I've never had a issue with a gookit not flowing, I've had bubbles in the wax and it still flowed great.

I used both of the heat coils that came originally in my grande

This MAY be why I had to use 10x the recomended amount of surfactant

Regardless, it now works perfectly
Shut up ! Lol I have an opening Wensday between 12-5 pm for you to come make mine!

This is the second time I've ordered goo, put it in the grande, and had to heat it up on a hot plate and pour it all out. I have still never seen a grande flowing, ever. :(

I have added 6 oz of surf, in addition to the 58-60 ml I added at first...it's changed, and moved slightly, but the surface is still rough, and hard-looking. :( All of the water is warm at this point...it's been running for like 3 days straight. I was really hoping I could get it running on Christmas, like I wanted it to run on my birthday, but oh well. We don't have any epsom salts, but we do have some canning/pickling salt.

Thanks for the help, you guys!

Oh yeah...I only have 1 coil. Are grandes supposed to have 2 coils?

Mine had two-
A big one and a small one

They are running great now
