I have to say that although this lunar is in mint condition and has hardly / never been used (apparently) I think its overpriced. I mean I know lunar's cost (£500 - 700) but 1000 for a lunar with a standard bottle is overpriced.
I reckon it got into a bidding war and the buyer was determined to get it whatever the cost.

I just want to say that I am not bashing the buyer of this at all (OG member or not) as you have got yourself a very nice lunar but I personally think its over priced.

Johric, you're right, it has been used.

On the pics we can see some wax cap (the part that usually stays on top sometimes) laying over the rest of the wax.

But still a very nice Lunar, but at crazy price. The box, and the good pictures made the price here.

Can someone tell me if this statement is true or not. If you let a lava lamp sit too long without running it, the wax can actually go bad. I read that statement from somewhere, but I don't remember where. If it is true, then a lamp that has been sitting dormant and literally hasn't been started since 2000, may not start flowing and run at all. I don't know if I would pay that much for a lamp that may not flow.

I was on the phone with them while this lamp was already at 999£, and we spoke about it, but it won't change the fact that they will not release a new Lunar :-(

We should send this link to Mathmos, to underline the re release of the new Lunar ;)

I think it's not true.

I didn't use some of my telstars for few years (yes I'm ashame!) and they still flow perfectly.

Now, I don't know about 15 years...

Yea, I can't remember where I read that statement. But I was thinking, how can wax break down by not running? It didn't make sense to me.

Yes, they told me today this is just rumours. (They already told me that before, so no change here)

No new Lunar I'm affraid.

The lunar release is all rumour's - it wouldn't surprise me if it happens or not but its not completely made up as it has been said from a number of sources. - People on hear, Mathmos employees, other collectors, companies etc so it could happen but really we just don't know -Ii don't think anyone really does.

About the wax yea it will flow but you will have to 'brake it in' first - involving heating it for longer then it should be fine.

Its blantent that the lunar has been used - the seller said he used it a fue times (not much though) and also bottles are tested before they leave the factory so no bottle should be absolutely 100% 'not used'

Astrolav - we should send a lot of things to Mathmos - that is just one of them.

D'oh. Club Lunar is running this discussion! (In respect of the very expensive Lunar).

The seller claims it had the original box but the only box I saw in the listing was the box for the bottle. lamp does appear to be in great condition.

NO don't do that lol  I'm not paying way over the odds for poor quality, however I would gladly pay unto £500 for a relaunched Lunar if it was the same quality as the last Lunar's Mathmos made :-)
