Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello to everyone out there. I am beginning my adventures in the Goo. Unfortunately I wasn’t studying up on the forums a few weeks ago when I decided to pop the top off my old school Aristocrat (eBay purchase) and dump all the liquid down the drain trying to get rid of cloudy water. Some things only happen once :). So I have done quite a bit of reading and am pretty sure I have a good idea of what to do. I just wanted to make sure before I go round two. I have a few questions and my plan is the following-

- Use the original goo in the globe. Is this a bad idea?
- Should I take out the current goo and totally clean the globe before I start?
- Get distilled water and sea salt.
- Create a very salty solution with water (a couple cups of water worth).
- Add pure water to globe (half full).
- Let everything warm up
- Begin to add an ounce at a time of salt solution until I see the goo start to dome.
- Add ounce water (pure) / ounce solution at this point until I get near top.
- Mix one drop of dish soap in 1 cup of water and add an ounce of this solution at a time until I see goo teardrop. (This is the one area I am feel really unsure about). How do I know when I have the right amount of surfactant?

I really appreciate the assistance and my wife does too as I am fixing what was just an “I’ll just change the water really quick and everything will look perfect…).
