Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi everyone,

I recently bought two Lava World lamps online. They are medium sized, clear with purple lava. They each have a 25W bulb. When we got them they were a bit cloudy, but I am hoping they will clear with continued use. Everything was going great for two weeks until recently when both of them stopped flowing. The lava bobs at the bottom, acting as if it would like to separate and flow, but then comes back down and does nothing. I'm a little peeved as these are brand new lamps and I can't find them readily in Canada. Is there any way to fix this? Any tips anyone would like to offer?

Thanks so much for all the info on this site!

hi victoria, im new here but i have been having a simular issue with a brand new mathmos lunar bottle although mine is brand new yesterday, it starts flowing for say two hours then stops and ends up a blob at the bottom theres movement and looks like it wants to go but wont, the kind goo guys and girls on this site have been very helpfull and all say its overheating so i need to dim it with the dimmer does your lamps flow at all during warm up ? what bulb do they take i would think 30watt in a medium lamp or i stand to be corrected. i know how you feel when this happens its so disappointing. :o( hope someone else can be of more help but your not alone :o)
Don't worry the experts are at hand! I'm not one of them though but sometimes flow is connected to the conditions of the room the lamp is located in as well as the obvious (bulb wattage). Is your room particularly cold? probably not at this time of year. Try running them for at least 4 hours from cold to see if there is any improvement. If not turn them off again and let them go cold (room temp) then repeat the process. Good luck.

Hi! They take a 25 watt bulb. One of them will send up a spike when it is warming up, and maybe a couple of blobs, and then the lava stays at the bottom. It is very frustrating.
Hi! I will try your advice. The room is average temp, so not too cold, not too hot. I am crossing my fingers that they will fix themselves. Thanks for the comment.
hi v well i hope they do sort themselves out, its like J said room temp has a big part to play, hope all goes goo soon :o)
You're welcome, if still no go on the flow, speak to Bohdan, he is the man here for super advice and tips. What he don't know aint worth knowin'.

It's a 20 oz lamp. I bought it at Lamps Plus: http://www.lampsplus.com/products/Table@Lamps/60588/. Part of the lava is off the coil when it heats up.

Where can I get a dimmer switch?

Thanks so much for your reply!
