Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Yesterday, I had the day to myself and was caught up on work, so I decided to try to make my own lamp, goo and water, from scratch.  I never thought it would work, as I have read that making the goo is very difficult.

My first try was a failure.  Goo would not rise, or even dome.

The second try?  Success!!  See attached photo.

I bought a pound of white wax at Michaels for about $5.

I have one block of wax left, so I am going to try to build another one today.  Working from home has it's advantages!!  Thank you to the forum members who have given me advice and posted topics in the past that have been helping in my oozing quest to make my own lamps.  I have never done anything like this and it is great fun.  I hope this white goo works the bubbles out, after a few cycles.

Non-Chlorinated flammable has S.G. of .78 is NOT the original formula and is flammable

The chlorinated version has an S.G. of 1.62 and is not flammable

Id would suggest using the original version as the newer version was not available when the original lava lamp formula was invented in the UK and is proven to work. I'm not saying the newer 50 state version wouldn't work, it might be worth the experiment? but why risk flammability?

The S.G., in this case, is irrelevant as this product is NOT there to help with flotation but to add viscosity to the wax.
Flotation is achieved by propylene glycol or Espon salt saline solution

Awesome,  great to know

Definitely all set with flammability at this point

Claude,

For years I saw that “Make your own Lava Lamp” posting on eBay and was always curious about what it might say.  I never did buy it though, figuring it would not tell me anything I did not already know.  Thanks for posting it....I was right there was not anything that was new news to me.  However it definitely looks like a nicely done document and I am glad to have had a chance to see it finally.
