Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Well, what's the latest on this? Do we need to do a last min hoarding purchase of bulbs or are lava bulbs considered exempt for this upcoming ban?

Hey Brad, I jus had an idea...because all the different styles and numbers make things a little hard to decipher (for me, anyway), why not email the bulb's manufacturer and ask THEM?  Surely, they will be the best able to know for sure if they will still be making/selling the bulbs.  If it happens to be GE, I know they have pretty good customer service cuz I send so many dud bulbs back to them, and they always respond with an apology and free coupons...

Yes, in 1 place it says reflector bulbs are exempt but then farther down they specify multiple "reflector" type bulbs that ARE being phased out and even go as far as suggesting alternatives for them.  My take is the 100 watt r20 WAS in fact affected (since the Phillips duramax ones did vanish from stores around 2009) and the ones we still see are either people's stock, NOS, or possibly imported? Possibly Lava themselves are exempt somehow and can get them because of manufacturing the lamps?

jeff - it IS confusing, isn't it?  it's not clear if the R20 reflector is exempt from the new standards or not.  common sense would tell me that if they were NOT exempt, the prices would be very high, and companies that depend on them, like lava lite, would be in contact with us somehow to let us know to stock up.  as i posted above, the R20 is a reflector, and reflectors are not considered to be general service incandescent lamps.  so then the question is, why is there legislation on R20 and other R-type bulbs if they are excluded?

Almost as easy, but not near as intriguing as watching this back and forth questioning, and wondering how long it will keep going!  lol
