Sounds like a bare spot on the coil to me. Those pull in water, and make those little blobs you see. Each one of those has a water bubble in it, if it's what I think it is. When you lift the globe up, can you see a spot on the coil where there's no wax stuck to it? If so, there's a likely suspect. I've found that turning the globe in the base in short, sharp bursts can help pull the wax over onto the bare spot. Sometimes you have to do that over and over...sometimes it never really works.
I haven't figured out the bubble issue, it doesn't bother me that much. But the grape sized blobs could be from overheating. (see picture forth from left below)
