My coil was shiny and clean, Jeff.  Till last night........I have no idea what's happened with that.   I think that was what happened with Rodrigo's too.  This is nuts, and I can't even run my lamps at all right now.  It's cold in the house and 5 degrees with snow outside, so my V1's would just freeze into a spike after they started flowing overnight.   They're just "decoration" right now.

Forgot to mention I have no issues with flow either, as long as the coils settle back down.  Twice they did not and I had to twirl the globe.

I don't see the black stuff during flow either...but it just seemed to be for a brand new lamp there shouldn't be anything...those coils should be shiny and clean.

Soooo...

I was sitting there with pliars in my hand going "if I open this, I can't return it...but it might fix it." But I put my faith in Libby, and WOW! I'm glad I did. :) Gorgeous, perfect flow for the last 4 solid hours! Thanks, Lib! I'm naming this thing after you! LOL!

I primed the coil by heating it up and plunging it in molten MT goo. It was a pain in the ass (especially when it was 18 degrees in the shop!), but it was SO worth it, because the flow is perfect. The second coil looks like it's totally bonded with the wax! SUCCESS!!

Now I'm all excited about getting the pink one again! :D Even if it's a V2 that craps out, I can fix it! ...Hopefully!

We aren't worthy.......      I always wanted a lamp named after me, Loren, but please don't add a bad adjective to it if, "Heaven Forbid," something happens.       We'll just come up with another plan.   I've been pulling every trick I can think of since getting these lamps in October!!   As has everyone else, I'm sure!   But I'm so glad yours is working now!!!   YAY!!!!

Thats awesome, Im glad to hear another good review on the second coil. I just got home to mine flowing beautifully for the second time ever with 2 coils. I shouldve primed it with some goo bcuz i had a hard time with the wax sticking for about 30 minutes but i got it to stick fairly easily and it worked out. Flows really good, the first cycle was from a hot start because i had to drop in the coil, but today I fire it up from cold and its flowing pretty good already and its only been 6 hours since its on. The V1 is still in that stage where all the spikes collapsed and are melting in a pot at the bottom. Both lamps fired at the same time, both with the bases wrapped.

Oh wow, that's not good. Yours is worse than mine. I haven't looked at my green yet.

*sigh* This shouldn't surprise me though.

Mt green v1 does the coil flip more often now that I raised the bulb some.  I too noticed black flecks of crap on the coils the last time it did it.  Immediately made me think of the issue Rodrigo had where it got worse and worse and am fearing I'm going down the same path :(

My V2 was fleck free the last time it flipped, the V1 has a lot of it but it doesn't show up except when warming up. Both are flowing great since last night so about 26 hours of flow now, here is a picture. From left to right: V2 pink, V1 pink on the stool. Flow is almost identical now that I added a second coil, I'm convinced that fixed it. The only difference is that the V1 makes bigger blobs in general, I'm so happy the V2 flows with that second coil.

So, what is the best way to get a coil out of a 52oz lamp?

I just emptied the liquid, then emptied the wax by melting it. I had an experiment globe that was trash, only needed the coil so I dumped the rest out.

Egnix, if your 52 oz. globe is trash, what Rodrigo said is the best way, but if you want to keep the wax and liquid, just uncap the globe, put it back on the base and melt the wax, take it off the base and fish the coil out with a piece of wire or a coat hanger with a "hook" bent into it.

Thanks!  I have a number of 52ozers with crappy flow, so I might go steal one of their coils.

Well my fear came true tonight....black and brown flecks in the lava during flow  :(  This sux.  Quality control on new stuff (in general) really has gone downhill.  Yea these new Grandes flow great....but they apparently don't last.  At the price point I would have expected more than 3 months of clean wax.  My other Grande is 9 or 10 yrs old, from whenever they first released them and its wax is perfectly clean and thankfully the liquid is too.

I know my V1 has a lot and that was the issue I had with that lamp. But I'm pretty sure my v2 doesn't have any. Either way on my v1 it never shows up while flowing, only when it warms up during the first tentacles..
