I prefer the liquid level to go a bit higher than the bottom of the cap once the lamp is flowing. Unfortunately most of the Grandes I've seen only just reach the bottom of the cap.

The water volume has expanded somewhat because of the wax, but the air itself is under less pressure given the remaining volume than it would have been if the bottle was hot. Anyway, I doubt you'd be able to crack a Grande globe even if the air was compressed to just about nothing. More pressure, and the cap would probably pop off before the bottle broke. The only way you're likely to generate enough pressure on the glass itself is by freezing most / all of the water, since the ice on the outside won't be able to flow out the top as the water in the middle continues to freeze and expand.

umm the pressure will be much greater from the frozen 'expanding' water , ever put a bottle of soda pop in the freezer ?
the problem is that FedEx had mine the whole time . I ran outside before the guy even pulled away from my curb side .

Yikes!
I had Fedex hold mine for pickup as it's been in the single digits here!
what i dont get is that FedEx doesnt keep their stuff in at least a garage above freezing !
I've had conversations with acquaintances who have worked for well known delivery companies. At times the workload is so demanding they have to just grab parcels and throw them over their shoulders onto a conveyor belt or truck to get deliveries out on time, regardless of fragile/this way up stickers !!!
Can you imagine this time of year !

By the looks of the pink one, it was on its side when it froze. LL needs to make ridiculously obvious markings on these to help combat that. Or maybe it wouldn't matter; the handlers just don't care. I'm still amazed those globes didn't break, especially after being tossed around on their way to your door. Maybe they'll be okay.
Well honestly the shipping companies get paid VERY WELL for their services and they have plenty of business ! It use to be if you wanted your package treated with care and you want it to get there safe use the 'special' shipping companies. The price you paid for this service was much more but well worth it. Now we still pay the price but do NOT get the service .
I'm sure the fat cats get paid very well !!!
Not the poor hardworking sods that do all the grafting !
The rat race is over... the rats have won !!!!
Rant over. lol.
so true !!

i keep thinking of Doug on King of Queens delivering mine LOL
3rd run on the green neon grande 2.0 the coil flipped and then stayed cocked to the side at an angle and the lava would not flow. when cooled down the coil was sticking out like some kind of alien artifact. i remembered someone suggested using a magnet to move the coil with out opening the bottle so the the 4th run when it was good and liquid i did just that... a strong magnet from home depot and i pulled it right down and within 5 mins was back to flowing like a champ
joanne how are the frozen babies doing? thawed yet? run yet?
they are thawed and up to room temp finally but the green has cracks around the top , not going to turn it on . trying the pink now . Crossing my fingers and listening for the sound of cracking glass .
