I am gonna have to try this trick. i shut down a lamp before it fully warmed enough to soften the wax 100% so the wax column that formed was halted in place. it seems a part of that was touching the glass, now when it runs there is a small smudge of wax where it formerly had been in contact. lesson learned: do not shut down lamp if there is a wax column formed touching glass.
