My Experience With the Lava Plus

Hello everyone! Yesterday I made an impulse purchase that I was a bit worried about at first, but quickly turned into one of my favorite possessions.

As you can probably tell by the title, the object in question is the Lava Plus.

I have read many reviews about this particular lamp online and was a bit disheartened by them. As with most of the newer Chinese lamps, scores were low and reports of cloudy water were absolutely rampant. But they weren't enough to dissuade me from buying one yesterday at the local Walmart for the clearance price of $13.

I was rather skeptical of the lamp still, from the online reviews, and quickly inspected the contents of the box when I made it out to my car. Upon gazing at the globe I noticed that the liquid was not only crystal clear, but it even looked nicer than the liquid in my prized '97 Midnight garage sale find.

After I got it plugged in, I thought I was going to have to return it though. The initial warm up not only took forever, but I didn't think that the lava would ever flow. There was a little bit of liquid-like movement at the base, but nothing...for around eight hours. I turned it off and let it sit over night, deciding to give it another chance this morning. This time the lava heated up rather quickly, taking only about two hours before becoming completely molten...and the flow is absolutely fantastic. It isn't quite as good as my Midnight, but for a small cheap lamp it does the job nicely. The only issue seems to be the base. The screw that holds the lava lamp portion to the base is just a little bit too long, so it wobbles some if disturbed, this is minimal though and doesn't really detract from the experience.

I was rather skeptical, but am glad that I decided to make the purchase, especially since it only came out to about $15 with tax and the lightbulb. Overall I would definitely recommend getting a Lava Plus if you can find one at a nearby store that allows returns, especially if you can get it at a good price. I returned today and I purchased my mother one as well, and hers is in the same pristine condition.
