Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have been trying to flock a base for some time now, but I cannot seem to get it to coat the base 100%. I can see paint under the fibers. I asked the vendor if this was normal, and he said it was. So what I need to know is on flocked lamps made by mathmos or the older lava lite lamps, can you see the paint under the fibers?

Yea flocking sounds like a mission - regarding seeing paint under the fibres it depends on how well it is done. If it is rapid then there shouldn't be mettle showing through, however some are sprayed on and this could have paint showing through if not much flock is used.

I am going to try and wrap one of my lamps in fabric as opposed to flocking - sounds like it could be a tricky project.

Hmm.. I have been using a black base paint and using blue flock fibers. I learned that you must color match your flock and paint to create a good finish.

Looks like a flocking success to me. The camera doesnt do justice to the finish, but I think my finish is on par with mathmos. Then again I have never seen a flocked mathmos base, but I can hope cant I?
I have visions of my cats using a flocked base as a scratching post.
