So, I had a chance to grab this red glitter grande for a very good price locally through LETGO. I came with the original box. I was so excited as I really want a glitter grande and messed up the cap to my empty grande and gave it to a friend to tinker with.
Since it was far away a friend picked it up for me so I was not able to inspect in person but the photos looked promising.
Got it home today, cleaned up the outside of the bottle. The 60 watt bulb did not work so I put in an extra 100watt for a lava grande.
So first off, below is a photo of the cap which I assume means it is from 2003

Let's discuss the problems, options and bulb in no particular order
Photos and videos will be below after #1 #2 and #3
#1 The fluid itself is not horribly cloudy but has floating lighter puffy looking particles. Since running it a few hours these seemed to have gotten smaller and less noticeable. What are these and why does this happen? Will running for many days 10 hours a day help reduce/eliminate these?
#2 See below photos and video. The interior of the bottle has some type of residue that is more towards to the bottom of the bottle and one small section in the middle. There is also some towards to the top cap. I can't for the life of me figure out what it is and where it came from? I assume #1 and #2 are related? What is this residue and will running for many days 10 hours a day help reduce/eliminate this residue? This residue looks like it will eventually be scrapped off by the movement of the glitter as I can see some glitter tracks through this residue?
#3 I do not have a 60watt bulb and ace hardware does not have any. I am currently running a 100 watt lava bulb from a grande and a few hours in the lamp is not that hot. Can I get away with this wattage as long as I don't overheat the bottle and with this higher wattage how many hours max can i run before things go bad?
#4 I get so pissed that the videos never show the real color but the lamp when off is deep red and when on is bright red, actually a very nice lamp if it clears up even partially!

Looking forward to your thoughts and comments and NO there is no way I am opening another grande to fix it. Will either keep it and hope it clears up or trade to someone who wants to open and clean and or convert and I can get a nice glitter grande bottle return (claude wink wink)

Come to think of it, I don't know what bulb actually should be in this lamp as there is little info online about the bulb for glitter grandes.
The 60watt bulb that came in this lamp (dead bulb) according to lava lamp website is for:
This bulb works in 18.5″ / 80 oz. Royale Lava® lamps.
So, can someone tell me what bulb is correct for this lamp??
The paper in the box "care and operation" does not even specify the bulb, how odd is that?
Christian, thanks, I checked two other stores and they don't carry them locally so i will call up lava lamp and order a few to have on hand.
I feel stupid, on the base it actually says the bulb type where the bottle sits, just didn't think to look there lol. Funny all the stores sell the bulb in 45watt version though, odd if you ask me.
I'm gonna stick with the 100 watt bulb for now and just not run the lamp as long to see if the stronger bulbs helps clear up some of the residue on the bottle interior.
Once the new bulbs come in will switch over and run it for a full week everyday for 10 hours or less to see what the final result looks like.
Michael, no problem, with the 100 watt bulb I only run it for a few hours about 3 to 4. I did so last night with no issue, I wouldn't push it any further and I check the bottle heat every hour. If the bottle were to get really hot i would turn it off immediately.
To bad I couldn't just throw in a standard 75 watt frosted bulb that I have laying around for the time being.
I also purchased a philips 60W indoor flood bulb. It's a smaller spotlight that is about 1/2" shorter than the correct bulb. The problem with this bulb is the glitter moves very slowly. Maybe I'll throw it in for 3 to 4 hours to see what happens. It's 580 lumens. see photo below, your thoughts on this bulb?
Also have the AC in the the same room to help keep things cool.
I have used a 75 watt version of this type bulb to run a lava grande with decent results. If you can find one it might be just what you need.

Pretty sure these are from deteriorated glitter. Cycling will not help.

See above. I think the residue may partially be removed by movement, but will add to the "fluff" in the globe
Hello? Is my mic on? I don't think anyone can hear me.
Sorry, hahaha, didn't check last night for replies.
For some reason, I can't imagine that residue on the interior and puffy stuff to be deteriorated glitter. The stuff floating around looks more like small pieces of frosted flakes cereal if that makes sense?
Maybe it is, who knows, I'm using as is for now as it's still a nice lamp when the lights are off. Gotta get the right bulb though.
The bulb in my earlier post once warm works good enough but still not the right bulb.
