Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I bought a really cool pink/white lava lamp at a garage sale yesterday, and after putting in a new bulb, the thing doesn't work!!! I tried everything I could think of that would be a simple fix, but not go. I have put more money into the bulb than the purchase of the lamp, lol!!! I really love it and plan on repainting the base and top to a matte black....but first I need to get it working. It's got the switch on the cord, and I don't know if there is a way to rewire it like you would on a regular lamp...but any help would be appreciated!! The bulb is out of my other one (yes, I know, I only have 2!!! I'm a newbie) and we haven't found a replacement, so I am having lava withdrawl!!!! thanks ahead of time for any help!

Ok, thanks a ton for your help!! I was dreading rewiring it, as where the cord goes in the bottom is pretty hard to get it out....I'll try that, thank you again!!
