Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Ok... is there a good schedule for operating lava lamps?. I like to run mine every day. Of course I don't have the huge collection some of you do, but I don't want to wear the ones I have out prematurely either. I know 24/7 is overkill, but IS there a time frame that will keep the lava in "good" shape for as long as possible? 8hrs one day.. none the next.... etc.

later.....

I was told by a former LavaWorld employee that the wax standard was 20,000 hours, thats almost 7 years at 8 hours a day. The standard assumes no abuse ( overheating, extended runs, sunlight, shaking etc.)

p.s. From my own experience with my cousin who abuses lamps to no end....after 5+ years now he has ran 4 lamps everyday on a timer for 8 hours a day, lamp #1 is a 52oz USA purple/yellow from 2001, it is now clear/yellow but runs as good as day one, lamp #2 is a 32oz USA clear/black from 1995, it is perfect, lamp #3 is a 32oz USA clear/black from 1997, it shows some dye leaking from the wax into the water making it dark but runs perfect, lamp #4 is a 32oz USA clear/red from 2001, it is perfect. The only lamp I seen him destroy was a Grande which he ran continously, it failed in 4 months.
