I was about ready to GooKit my glitter Grande from Mike, and then I realized I didn't have a spare coil. I've read through several threads on here about coils (including the most definitive one started by Kris) and I still am not certain what I need.
Someone in that thread mentioned that the coil needs to be stainless steel. Makes sense. But, the coils purchased from Lowe's were zinc-plated, and someone said those would corrode over time.
If anyone has replaced a coil with something and it's worked, can you post it here?
Does zinc-plated truly corrode in our lamps, and if so, how long does it take to corrode?
I'll update this post after I search the hardware stores here. I am also going to write Magma Tower and once and for all find out how you're supposed to use those mesh screens they now include with GooKits (what happened to the coils?!).

Hello I have a guy that makes my coils from pure stainless for me. Right now I have 4 fit the 70's 5 for the 10" lamps and will be getting about 36 for the 32oz bottles in about 2months.
Do you have any that you can sell? I'd be interested in buying a few.

Hi there, just reading this thread for my first time. I purchased stainless mesh, similar (I am assuming) to what Goo Kit offers. I have used it successfully in a couple different ways. I am sorry I have no pictures...
1) Cut a strip of it, four or five mesh "rows" wide, then roll it up into a circle. Push that circle into the bottle, then use a couple shishkabob skewers to open back up. It's not that hard, unless you have hooves I suppose.
2) Cut a strip of it, four or five mesh "rows" wide, then fold it up into the shape of an arrow head, with two long sides and two short sides. Shove that into a bottle then use the aforementioned shishkabob skewers to make it the proper width.
I would still be using the mesh if I hadn't scored a lot of a hundred stainless springs on ebay. I stretch them out by hand, cut them in the middle, hook them onto themselves, and voila!
Both mesh and coils work fine. I will confirm that it needs to be stainless steel...
I figured I'd add this. Haven't tried them yet. Going to put one in my pink kit as it insists on doing nothing but columning for hours unless I blast the heat up at full power 60 watt. It's a 52 oz. Bought these today.....hummmm....cross between the mt goo screen and a coil....like a coil screen.....wil it work???
