Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

my lamp is about 15 years old and has had no problems. today it was fine for about 4 hours, now the wax is just a big glob at the bottom and won't move. what can i do?

Sounds likes it's overheating or the coil is finished. Did you recently switch out the bulb? whats the wattage of the bulb your using? can you take pics?

Hi Dr. WHAT?!, sorry it took me a while to get back, thanks for writing back. It's a fairly old bulb. I have the lamp sitting out, but don't turn it on every day, maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks for about 8-10 hours. The wax always moved just fine, until a few days ago when it would move for about 4 hours, then settle in a ball at the bottom. It did that 2 days in a row. The bulb says "Appliance 40 W Lamp Mexico" (or it may say 4.0 W, its hard to read). I can take a picture of the bulb if that would help, or of the lamp?
