So disappointed I could cry

So, my husband DID buy me a Mathmos to help ease the pain of losing our puppy and my Colossus. He's so sweet. It arrived this afternoon and I am so disappointed I could cry. The bottom of the base is cracked almost all the way around. The entire lamp looks like it might cave in. It doesn't look like a new injury. It looks like its been there for a long time. Although, the box was very poorly sealed, I'm kinda surprised there isnt more damage. Also, as you can see in the pic, the seller left this two-pronged metal staple/nail type thing attached to the cord. It scratched the base pretty bad. I sent the seller a note through eBay, but do any of you know if I have any rights? It cost as much to ship it as the lamp itself cost! I'm thinking I'm stuck with a broken lamp because it wouldn't be worth sending it back... :(

Btw, the lamp was listed in good condition and the photo on the listing conveniently didn't show the damage.

I really appreciate when sellers work with buyers without making a fuss. Thanks for all the help. The funny part is that the hubby didn't know the plug would be different. I found an adapter n Walmart.com for $10. Looks like it will work ok. Tim, sorry you lost your doggie too. We will never be able to replace ours, but we have room in our home for one of the many homeless dogs in our area (bad economy=abandoned pets) so we will be able to fill the void, and hopefully give another dog a second chance...

Make sure to get a hold of the seller first and tell them what you just told us. Tell them that you want your money for the lamp refunded and you want one of your shippings refunded as well. As far as the little white staple in the wire, I don't know what that thing is. Hey Jenn you may be lucky enough, that someone on this site may have a Mathmos base for your globe. FINGERS CROSSED!!

Comment by Tim Gill on September 21, 2012 at 4:44pm: I think that you are within your rights on Ebay to complain and basically say that you got ripped off which you did as the damage wasn't described and shown. As well as this the packaging was bad so yea I would contact Ebay on this one and try and get your money back.

I understand that the postage is high but if the globe and cap is fine jet bases do come up on ebay UK and people hear may be able to help you out with a spare base this will be a lot cheaper to ship.

I am sorry to hear about your puppy, our family dog went a good fue months ago, its a shame when pets go.
