Spent a couple of weeks on this Decorator. Glued the cracked cap. Replaced the socket and installed a dimmer. Replaced the lava and liquid with vintage lava and liquid. I'm pretty pleased with it, but it needed everything!

Lookin' good! These were the only planter lamp not supplied with flowers. I've tried a few things. One I did once was to take a string of multi-colored mini Christmas lights (a white cord would be good) and wrapped the lights around and around loosely - I made sure the cords didn't touch the center cone and that the bulbs were all over the place - and then covered them with a thick later of tiny cubes of broken auto-windshield safety glass. That looked pretty cool. You could also use those little smooth glass pebbles sold for fish tanks or floral arrangements. Also, I bought a lot of bunches of plastic/rubber grapes used for fake floral arrangements and filled a base with those.
I've made a few plastic flower rings for my Elegant Enchantress Planters and they turned out nice, but yeah, most guys don't care for that. You could always do some sort of mod painted styrofoam balls or something. Or just do a "leaf" ring - greenery, but no flowers. Or Matchbox cars. ;)
I really don't know. Any suggestions? Plastic flower rings really don't appeal to me. :>)
Sorry about that! :( Well, at least you have yourself a nice lamp now. What are you going to fill the ring with? Got any plans for that?
I guess it must have. Still thought it was a good deal for $30.
No kidding, But hey, YOU fixed it and it looks great. I'm glad it got restored! I've restored liquids in other lamps of this age (60s), but I could not get this one to go for some reason. Oh well, this story has a happy ending! Did the cap crack in the mail? The cap wasn't cracked when I sent it.
It is the Decorator from Hell! Required two goo heads to fix it!! :>)
Erin - I did buy it off eBay for $30 about 2 weeks ago. It seemed like a good deal at time. :>) Seriously, it was a challenge, especially trying to get the existing socket to work. Every time I changed the bulb, it would cause it to short, I think. Finally, decided to gut the electric. Everything got better from there. It was a good challenge, and I learned a lot -- patience, mostly! LOL
I think this *was* my lamp! Kudos on improving it. I gave up!
